Euro Circulation Coin Common Side Design Selection
This page gives an overview of the proposed Euro
Circulation Coin common side designs by the euro member states.
The common euro side selection procedure:
- In 1996 member states organise national competitions to select maximum 3
series with the themes: Architecture, Abstract, European personalities.
- At 13 march 1997 an European jury selects the 9 out of 36 series submitted
by the member states. These 9 series are shown on this page.
- In March/April 1997 a technical report by the mint directors on the
designs is provided and a public opinion poll is held.
- In May 1997 consumer organisations and blind representative associations
are consulted.
- At 8 June ECOFIN Council in Luxembourg selected the winning series.
Consulted by Head of State and Governments.
- At 16-17 June 1997 the winner (Luc Luycx) was
announced by Head of State and Governments in Amsterdam.
